The world has changed a lot since PlainClothes opened for business in 1986, and that includes the world of what to wear. But, like it or not, people are still getting dressed every day thereby consciously presenting themselves to the world.
We find the subject both fascinating and exciting.

Now we are excited about new, technology-enabled ways of doing things, hands-on production methods, authentic products, sustainability, experiments in ecology and designers who believe that small can be good. We've discovered many terrific designers, artisans, small manufacturers who set high standards for their products but keep a low profile.

And we are thrilled to meet makers around the world who are committed to quality, an approach we're happy now to be finding more often here in the USA.

The past informs the future, too, and so we find inspiration in the energy, and originality of the early 20th Century, the glamorous clothing styles of the 1920s and 1930s, and the incredible jazz music which became the pulse of that time. In fact, you will likely hear it playing when you visit us.

Our goal is to bring some of that 20th Century inspiration, energy, originality and glamour we admire to our 21st Century way of dressing. If you are a kindred spirit, you should know about our products and the people who make them and we'd love to introduce you.
